Runners Info
Whether you’re joining us for your first Goring 10k or returning for another run through our beautiful village, here’s everything you need to know for race day. From registration details and travel information to facilities and what to expect at the start and finish, this guide will help you make the most of your day.
1. Start & Finish
Registration
You can collect your race number and timing chip from Bourdillon Field behind Goring Primary School on the day of the race from 9.00am. In the event of adverse weather the collection point may be moved into the PE Hall at the school.
Start
The race will start at Storton Lodge, Icknield Road, Goring at 11.00am. The lodge is found at the Elvendon Road end of Icknield Road.
Before the gun fires, we ask runners to organise themselves based on their predicted finish times – typically 5-minute slots – to help ease the flow of runners at the start and keep runners safe.
Finish
The race finishes in Bourdillon Field at the rear of Goring Primary School. You can get there by following the public footpath from Elvendon Road (next to the safety barriers) – or by going through to the front of Goring Primary School from Wallingford Road.
2. On The Day Timetable
09:00 – Registration
You will need to collect your race number and timing chip from Bourdillon Field behind Goring Primary School on the day of the race from 9.00 a.m.
When you go to collect your number, please make sure you leave enough time to fill out the important medical and emergency contact details on the reverse.
There will be slots left for runners to enter on the day. If so, then On-the-Day Registration will be open at 9.00 a.m. at the registration tent on Bourdillon Field.
11:00 – Race Start
The race will start at Storton Lodge, Goring at 11.00 a.m. Note that the first 1.0 km is a steady incline up into the countryside. To be fair to all, competitors will be required to line up at the start in anticipated finishing times. For more information, refer to the Start details on the Race page.
12:15 – Prize Giving
The prize giving will be held on Bourdillon Field, where the race finishes, as close to 12.15 p.m. as possible. For competitors and their families wishing to take in the delights of the village after the race, there are several local pubs and restaurants that offer good food and a convivial atmosphere. You may want to book lunch in advance as they are particularly popular on race day.
12:30 – Cut-Off Time
Runners must complete the course in 90 minutes. We rely on hundreds of generous volunteers to ensure a successful event and for many, the hard work starts after the race as the clearing up begins.
3. Travel & Parking
By Road
From the M4: Exit at junction 12 on the M4 and follow signs to Pangbourne. At the mini roundabout in Pangbourne, go straight on towards Streatley. At the traffic lights in Streatley, turn right and follow the road down and over the river into Goring.
From the M40: Exit at junction 6 and follow signs to Watlington. At the T-junction in Watlington, turn right towards Benson. In Benson, turn right at the T-junction and then after 200 metres bear off left towards Wallingford. Go straight over the Crowmarsh roundabout towards Reading, continue straight across the next roundabout, then bear off right to Goring on the B4009.
By Rail
One of the easiest ways on the day is to come by train to Goring Station, which is on the main westbound line from Paddington. If coming from further afield than Reading or Oxford, you will need to change to a local service at either of these stations.
From the station, it is a 10-minute walk along Wallingford Road to Goring Primary School. The route from the station will be clearly signposted, and there will be marshals in hi-viz jackets to help anyone who needs assistance.
Parking
We recommend parking at the station and the village centre car park.
4. Facilities On The Day
Toilets
Toilets will be available at the following locations:
- The race start at Storton Lodge
- The Primary School
- The main village car park
Refreshments
There will be one water station en route, located at approximately the halfway mark in South Stoke, and a further station at the finish. All runners receive an eco medal and flapjack. In addition, there will be hot dogs, burgers, hot drinks, and other refreshments for sale, with all proceeds going to the school at Bourdillon Field.
Bags
Bags can be left at Storton Lodge, immediately next to the race start. There will be a marshal present at the lodge during the race; however, items are left entirely at the owner’s risk, and the Goring 10K and its organisers take no responsibility for loss or damage of any kind.
First Aid
Trailmed will be providing this year's first aid from start to finish, as well as support on site at Bourdillon Field.
